A DOWNTOWN
MERCHANT INITIATIVE
scroll for our story
An idea that began in 1927.
As Brighton began to feel the effects of the coming Great Depression, a group of Downtown merchants came together and launched an advertising campaign called Buy, Build, Believe in Brighton. Their campaign requested support from their local community.
And their community responded.
Thanks to these merchants and the community support they ignited, Brighton not only survived, it grew into the fun, family-friendly, and vibrant downtown we all love. Whether entertaining children at the Imagination Station, strolling the Tridge, or enjoying an exciting Ladies Night Out event, Brighton has something for everyone. Our Downtown is a true success story.
Success takes a village.
Since that original campaign, Downtown Brighton has partnered with a wide variety of family-owned businesses. Hard-working men and women who invested and continue to invest in their community. Committed people who enthusiastically show up at their shops, restaurants, and offices every single day to make Brighton the awesome place we all call home.

Enough said.
Downtown Brighton perseveres!
COVID-19 was an unprecedented event that affected us all in immeasurable ways. Its effects on family-owned businesses was devastating. However, through ingenuity, hard work, a supportive community and local government, Downtown Brighton merchants turned their lights back on and reopened their doors.
And Brighton is getting even better.
As the wounds brought on by the pandemic continue to heal, Downtown Brighton has embarked on a new journey. A streetscape and utility infrastructure improvement is underway and will last through 2023. In the long term, this project will greatly benefit our beloved Main Street, but in the interim it is a difficult hurdle. During this time of improvement, our merchants need our intentional support and patronage.
2023. A new campaign.
Our Downtown merchants believe in our community. They have great shops, restaurants, and salons. They provide quality service and know their customers by name. These merchants initiated the Believe in Brighton campaign and are funding and managing it. They created this website which includes a directory of their terrific businesses (Brighton Believers), a calendar of exciting events and festivals, and an awesome interactive map. They hope this website will encourage your patronage during these difficult times and afterward, it will continue to be useful as a one-stop guide to all things Downtown Brighton.
